Caving?

11 Jan

Owing to some arm-twisting and bullying by my good friend Noel, it seems I have caved (for today, at least) to the peer pressure of participating in Project 365 (Quick, say that fast! ::peer pressure of participating in Project 365:: Now tell me, do your lips feel like they’ve just had a workout? 😆  ).

So for today, I’m playing catch-up and working backward on my photos that I’ve taken since the first of this year. (I knew there’d be a time when shooting in RAW would get me. It would’ve been so much easier if I just shot in jpg, but I just keep thinking, what a waste of pixels! … yeah, it must be photography pack-rat tendencies. >heehee< )

I’ve found a way to deal with the little nagging alter-ego imp sitting on my shoulder asking me “Yeah, sure, go ahead and do the Project 365, but can you sustain that for the entire year?” 🙄 Well, here’s what I’ve decided to do.

I’ve decided to commit to taking photos (as I really shoot practically everyday; I just don’t upload them into my compy everyday. hahaha! ). And… that’s about it! hahaha! I’ll shoot my photos as I usually do and not worry about whether I’m uploading daily or creating layouts immediately, as long as I shoot a photo everyday and upload them eventually. Now isn’t that much less threatening? (So take that, you little imp-on-my-shoulder! hahaha!)

Anyway… so here’s the first one for the first day of this year. I took it in that fab place we stayed in as we welcomed the new year. The teenagers and my sisters and brothers and DH were playing with sparklers and confetti bombs, and of course I just had to grab my monopod and shoot (Have I said that I am afraid of getting near any fireworks? tsk tsk. Pathetic=Me, right? 😛 )

I’ve always wanted to attempt to shoot a slow-shutter-speed fireworks photo, and what better time to have a first try at it than the first minute of the first day of the year, right?  So, many thanks to my very cooperative subjects who obeyed without question when I called “Write 2009!”… here we go! 😆

(Bea, darling, this is for you! 😉 And for you too, Noel! heehee )

P.S.

I’d like to give everyone HUGE hugs for all the warm fuzzies you’ve left in my comments portion. Hearing from you really makes my day. I can’t even begin to tell you how much it means to me that you take the time to type in a few (or more!) words. Love ya, sweeties!

There are some questions that I received from some of you, and while I normally reply via individual email, I’ve seen in some blogs that the replies are written in the comments section too, so that others who may have the same questions can see the answers as well. Is this the right thing to do? What do you who blog do? 🙂

Anyway, for you, my dear friends, who asked me about stitching and the frame I used for my leaf-insect photo, I have the answers in the comments section here.

Now… gotta get back to the photos! (Will come back and edit this post to include the rest as soon as I’m done. )

(((hugs))) to you, my sweeties!

Just a thought – I have heard of these new SD cards from Eye-Fi that have a chip in them so you upload your photos whenever your camera is on. I guess that you can buy different types, one that loads to your computer, one that loads to your favorite internet photo site. That might make Project 365 more fun 🙂

365… I have gone back and forth w/ several different ideas – what I’d like to do vs. what will actually happen in my real life 🙂 For about 10 years, but not the last 2-3 years, I kept up with our daily activities on my daily planner – it has a spot about 1.3×3 inches for each day. I would write our daily activities – no matter how exciting or mundane (son lost a tooth, daughter’s dance recital, spent the day cleaning house or just piddling). I would use a few emotion words or smiley faces, but no in depth journaling. My goal is to get back to doing this – I’ve missed some great years (my kids are 10&14, so part of the problem was being too busy to stop and write). Like anything we do daily (or almost daily), once you break the habit, it’s hard to get back – you feel like you have to make up the days so you don’t do anything or you try to ‘catch-up’ which just means you get further behind… I’ll support this journaling w/ any photos I take, but don’t want the pressure of a photo/day – I’m enough of a photo-junkie. If and when I have the time to scrapbook, all sorts of details will be there and I’ll pair the story with the photos – and the emotions will always be there – I believe we never really forget those! The intent of 365 is to take a look at our ordinary daily lives, so no matter how we go about it, I think you can feel good about what ever you do! Your ‘just taking the photo’ is like my ‘just journal’ – we’re doing it, just not doing anything fancy with it….and that’s OK! 🙂

I love this photo! What a cool idea. You never cease to amaze me. I’m glad you are doing 365 but with the right attitude. It isn’t a tally, it is a commitment to document your year. Today’s photo better be of your espresso.

Just love the AWESOME photo! I would have never thought of that. And don’t feel too much pressure about P365 – just enjoy the process of taking the photos! Looking forward to seeing your next installments…

Great post! I love how you are handling the Project 365 imp! Wish I’d thought of that… I wimped out and am doing Project 52 (thanks to your suggestion) I can handle that.

Speaking of fun things to say fast… I love this quote, “What do you who blog do?” Sounds like a line from a Dr. Seuss book!

Totally LOVE that photo – what an incredible picture to start off the year with! I’m on board with the Project 365. At first I thought it was going to be overwhelming, but now I keep thinking “I should take a picture of that & that & that”, so I think it will be fun. I’m not going to stress if I happen to use 2 pictures from one day and none from a busy day. After all, am I going to remember even next week if that picture of the snow or a flower or whatever was from Wednesday or from Thursday? Heck no!
I’d love to know where your photo frame is from – love it!

YEA, for some peer pressure (in this instance!) I just printed a few photos–well, more than a few b/c it seems my colors are off when I print from CS4, even though I am using the same parameters that I use in CS3. Ugh. Anyway, I have mised 2 days so far. Oh well. Seems we have lots of photos this month already with New Years Day, my son’s first steps, and his first time playing in the snow (yesterday.) Of course, I also have a fabulous tushy shot of my 3 y/o daughter playing at the bathroom sink. So cute!

I love the photo mask you used for the 2009 picture. I love fireworks and sparkler pictures! I also love shooting in RAW.

One of my resolutions is to trash my bad photos. For some reason, I horde them. Blurry and all. I keep thinking I will use them for some decorative purpose on a card or something else for a little avant garde look. (sp?) Who am I kidding?

Happy 2009 Liv–that is an awesome photo to start out the new year. I’ve opted to participated in the less pressure, less overwhelming Project 52 in hopes to avoid the guilt complex I lay on myself for not keeping up or not doing anything at all. The idea is similar but only on a weekly basis–post the best of the week. I CAN do that.
